Concrete and its constituent parts - sand, aggregate and cement – are used in everyday objects which we may take for granted. Uses for concrete include; roads, freeways, footpaths, schools, hospitals, homes, offices and even furniture.

Really, we could not imagine life today without concrete. Interesting fact:- Next to water, it is the most consumed material on the planet. Worldwide, three tonnes of concrete are used per person every year. In Australia, the extractive, cement and concrete industries are collectively known as the “heavy construction materials industry”. This industry is very important to Australia’s economy, as it is worth $6 billion in revenues to the economy and contributes $11.7 billion to GDP. A truly massive industry indeed!
